Internet Advertising Revenues Increase By 200 Percent
UK and Ireland internet advertising revenue for the first six months of 1998 rose by more than 200 percent. This is just one of the findings of a new report by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB). The report was complied from data collected directly from companies selling advertising on the internet.
Total internet advertising year for the calender year ended 1997 was £8.1 million. Revenues for the first 6 months of 1998 totalled £7.9 million, tripling in size from the first quarter to the third quarter.
The computer products sector proved to be the leading internet advertiser, with consumer related goods and new media coming in joint second.

Charlie Dobres, general secretary of the IAB, commented: “For the first time since the advent of internet advertising in the UK, someone turned the lights on. Forget the hype, forget the speculation, now we know for a fact just how fast this market is growing. We are on course for continued significant growth for 1998. IAB members had been reporting an ever growing number of new advertisers putting budget into online in 1998, and these figures certainly confirm our optimism.”
