Internet Usage Begins To Impact Other Media

A recent BMRB Internet Monitor survey has shown that over a quarter of Internet users (26%) believe that they watch television less as a result of having Net access. This trend was found to be predominant in the C2DE group.

The survey also found that newspapers and magazines were suffering from less attention; 15% of Net users now spend less time reading magazines and 13% have cut down on newspaper reading. Contrary to this, however, only 6% claim to have stopped reading a printed magazine as a result of it also being published on the Net.

The report believes that the Internet is currently only affecting other media to a small degree but notes that Internet usage is expected to grow from 11% of adults at present to around 20% by the year 2000.

The Internet Monitor survey is conducted three times a year by questioning a group of 1000 Internet users.
