IPA Announces Appointment Of New Director General

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) has announced the appointment of Hamish Pringle as its new director general. He currently works for the IPA on a consultancy basis as director of marketing strategy, as well as being the director of a music dotcom company and a business author. In addition to his previous involvement with the IPA and NABS, Pringle has held senior positions in companies including Saatchi & Saatchi, Leagas Delaney, Abbott Mead Vickers and Publicis.

President of the IPA, Rupert Howell, said: “We are really delighted with this appointment. The long list assembled by Spencer Stuart was very good and the shortlist highly impressive, but Hamish stood out as having the combination of dynamism and diplomacy we were looking for, coupled with his knowledge and success working at the IPA and his deep love of the business.”

Pringle will take on the position in August this year, when Nick Phillips retires after a 12 year stint. In autumn last year it was confirmed that Phillips would take over as chairman of BARB (see Appointments Brief), a role in which he had been acting during the illness and subsequent death of Sir Giles Shaw last April.
