IPA Appoints New Direct Marketing Chief

The IPA has today announced the appointment of David Payne, former chairman of the Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM), to head up its direct marketing unit.

The appointment is part of the IPA’s drive to expand its influence in direct marketing agencies. Payne is a founder member of the IDM and was co-founder of direct marketing agency Payne Stacey, part of the Tequila group.

Commenting on his appointment, Payne said: “I have always regarded the IPA as the foremost authority representing marketing communications agencies. But now with a growing constituency of direct marketing practitioners, the IPA is intent on developing the resources to represent all their interests. I am delighted to be working with the IPA team to deliver first rate advice and being of service to the direct community.”

Hamish Pringle, director of the IPA, added: “I have talked with David over the past few years and have always been impressed with his grasp of the issues facing the DM industry and its agencies in particular. I am delighted that someone of his gravitas has joined the IPA.”

Earlier this year, the IPA published a new set of guidelines on SMS marketing in response to the increasing popularity of mobile media in the advertising mix (see IPA Publishes New Guidelines On Mobile Marketing).
