IPA Appoints Sven Olsen As New Committee Chairman

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising today announced the appointment of Sven Olsen as chairman of the value of advertising committee.

Olsen began his advertising career in 1984 with Davidson Pearce (now DDB) and has worked on several major brands including Pepsi, Apple and Peugeot during his work with London’s top 20 agencies.

His latest move sees him replacing Tim Broadbent in a position previously held by several industry heavyweights including current IPA director general Hamish Pringle and Stephen Woodford, president of the IPA.

Olsen’s role will include promotion of the benefits of advertising and marketing communications to clients. He will also be charged with mapping out industry best practice and overseeing the prestigious IPA Effectiveness Awards.

Speaking of his appointment Olsen said: “The need for proving the real value of advertising has never been stronger. The aim of the VAC is to provide the intellectual resource and platform to help agencies make the case for advertising among the client and wider business audience, all of whom are under increasing pressure to demonstrate return on investment.

Last week the IPA, along with other advertising industry bodies, put forward proposals to develop new contracts simplifying agreements between advertisers and agencies when designing and maintaining websites (see Industry Comes Together To Simplify Web Contracts).
