IPA Census Shows Rise In Agency Employment Figures

According to the latest IPA Census figures, the number of people employed in agencies has risen year-on-year, mainly driven by London agencies, and in particular, by increased hiring of executives and media staff.

London Outside London

Sept 1993: 11,100 staff at 224 member agencies 8,700 3,100

Sept 1994: 11,800 staff at 221 member agencies 8,000 3,100

These figures are still well down on the 1989 peak of 15,400 staff (10,700 in London, 4,700 outside).

50% of staff are under 30, 80% under 40. 48% of all staff are women, including 19% of board directors.
