IPA Launches New Business Group To Promote Best Practice

The IPA is setting up a new policy group to act as a voice for agencies on new business issues and to promote best practice.

It is understood that the New Business Group has been formed in response to requests from the AAR for agencies to sign confidentiality agreements, delays by advertisers in making decisions following pitches and the abandonment of pitches.

The group will also be responsible for defining the new business role and its place within agency life; promoting best practice; providing training and development opportunities and campaigning on issues relating to pitches and other agency selection processes.

Sam Roberts, IPA marketing executive and secretary for the New Business Group, said: “New business is the lifeblood of the agency world and it’s essential that our members know how to make their new business efforts a net positive. Through the impartiality of this new forum at the IPA, we believe we can help them achieve this.”

A panel of twelve elected members has been chosen to form and push the group’s agenda forward, it includes: Marcus Brown from Rain Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R; Lucy Bryn-Davies from Publicis; Neil Christie from BDDH; Mark Dickinson from OMD UK; Allan Dutton from Quite Storm; Kate Fox from Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy; David Kicks from Profero; Judy Mitchem from M&C Saatchi; David Muir from Ogily; Mike Nolan from Banks Hoggins O’Shea.FCB, Kathleen Saxton from PHD Media and Victoria Worrall from WCRS.

The New Business Group, which is yet to elect a chair-person, also intends to hold regular open forums giving the wider membership the opportunity to contribute to the group’s direction and offer their feedback and opinions on the agenda.

Last week the IPA announced plans to collaborate with the Design And Art Direction Agency (D&AD) on a joint training manifesto to promote the continuous professional development of creative practitioners (see IPA And D&AD Launch Training Manifesto For Creatives).
