IPA Responds To ITC Consultation Doc.

The IPA has responded to the ITC Consultation document on its Code of Sponsorship.

The IPA has said that it believes the code has been largely successful in striking a balance between encouraging development of sponsorship and avoiding the risk of provoking adverse viewer reactions. However, suggestions were made in areas of concern.

* Advertiser Supplied Programming

The IPA feels that the amendments go further on this than is reasonable, seeing no reason to assume that all advertiser-supplied programmes must be adversely influenced. They believe that code to clarify the sponsorship of factually based reports.

* Sponsor Influence

The IPA believes that there are areas of programming which could benefit from a sponsor’s involvement and which do not run the risk of perceived sponsor influence. They propose an extra clause so that providing the sponsor has a link with the overall subject but not the primary subject of the programme, then the sponsor should be permitted to sponsor that programme.
