IPA To Focus On Creatives

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) is taking the first step towards increasing its focus on creativity by appointing a senior executive dedicated to creatives.

The creative manager will be responsible for increasing the involvement of creatives in IPA affairs and will be charged with strengthening links between the IPA and the IPA Creative Directors Forum.

The IPA’s recently appointed director general, Hamish Pringle, said: “If you look at the range of services the IPA offers we’re strong on management, finance, production and planning – everything except creatives. In all areas we have underestimated the creative aspect.”

He added: “Out of the 40 people who sit on the IPA council only two are creative directors, this is something that needs to be addressed. The problem won’t be fixed in a day and our commitment to creatives will be a long term one,”

The IPA has received applications from three candidates and Pringle said: “The person we’re looking for may be a former head of creative services, somebody who has been involved in TV production or a creative director’s PA.”

He also confirmed that he will not be looking for a replacement to fill his previous role as IPA director of marketing strategy but will divide the position between three new appointments.
