IPC Appoints Editor For Woman’s Weekly And Closes SouthBank Publishing Development Division

IPC Magazines is closing its product development division of the Southbank Publishing Group after less than a year since its launch.
The department was set up last year, headed by Maureen Rice, to handle new products and magazine launches. The first of these was Made Up!, which launched in October 1997 but was suspended after only one issue and returned to the research stage; it is planned to be relaunched this Autumn (see Made Up! Magazine To Get Autumn Relaunch).
No-one was available to comment further on the division’s closure, but it was confirmed that it is going ahead.
IPC has also appointed Gilly Sinclair as editor of Woman’s Weekly. She was previously editor of Family Circle and GMTV Magazine.
The magazine’s previous editor, Olwen Rice, left the title in January after deciding that she wasn’t devoting enough time and attention to her family, something which Woman’s Weekly values very highly.
Sinclair joins the title on 6 July.
