IPC Appoints New Muzik Editor

IPC Ignite has appointed Malik Meer as the new editor of Muzik following the departure of Conor McNicholas to NME.

Meer previously worked as a commissioning editor on rival dance magazines Ministry and Emap’s Mixmag. Commenting on his appointment, Muzik’s publishing director, Eric Fuller, said: “He understands our readers, our music and our magazine and he has a raft of original editorial ideas to ensure Muzik remains a choice for dance music obsessives.”

ABC results for the six-month period ending June 2002 paint a mixed picture for the music magazine sector. Muzik has experienced a rocky ride due to shifting tides of fashion. While heavy-metal magazines such as Emap’s Kerrang! have benefited from the renewed interest in nu-metal music.

Muzikrelaunched in March in an attempt to attract a more serious dance music following. The new-look Muzik now contains more in-depth dance features, new graphics and more pages. However, the title saw an 18.5% year on year decline circulation to 36,018, according to ABC data for the first half of 2002.
