IPC Magazines Expands New Media Department

IPC Magazines has announced that it will be expanding its New Media Publishing department and has made several key appointments to facilitate this.
Jonathan Newby is appointed New Media publishing director and will head up the expanded department. He was previously an associate publisher with the IPC Weeklies Group and then publisher within the Specialist Group.
Colin Tough is appointed New Media editor-in-chief, and will be responsible for co-ordinating the content of IPC’s future new media developments. He was previously multimedia development manager of IPC and was responsible for developing UnZip, the UK’s first multimedia magazine on CD Rom.
The New Media Publishing department will continue its development programme based on a strategy of creating brand extensions in key market sectors, including Internet sites for NME and IPC Music Group. Work will also continue with the Cambridge Cable Interactive TV trial (Newsline 10/11/95).
In October last year IPC launched New Scientist Planet Science, an online extension of the magazine on the Internet. Following the success of this launch, the New Media Publishing department was set up to explore electronic publishing opportunities in other areas of the business.
