IPC Magazines signed an agreement to acquire five titles from Harmsworth Magazines Ltd; The Field, Shooting Times, Rugby World, Improve Your Sea Fishing and Practical Coarse Fishing. The transaction should be completed by August 31.
Mike Matthew, chief executvie of IPC Magazines, said, “We are particularly proud to take responsibility for publishing two of the UK’s oldest established titles: The Field was launched in 1853, Shooting Times in 1882.”
Martin Morgan, managing director of Harmsworth Magazines said that the sale follows a decision to concentrate on information publishing, in the education and professional markets, focussing particularly on Hobsons Publishing plc. Harmsworth’s remaining titles will continue to be published within other divisions of Daily Mail and General Trust, the owner of Harmsworth.
