IPC’s Web User Launches Digital Spin-Off Magazine

IPC Media’s Web User magazine has launched a digital spin-off publication, called Downloaded, which will be distributed electronically for £1.20 per issue plus VAT.

The new title is essentially a listings guide, keeping readers informed of the latest additions to the web and the best downloads and where to find them. The title takes advantage of its digital form by providing links to new music, film, television and games content.

Commenting on the new title Richard Clark, editor of Web User, said: “For some time we have been aware that there will be a need for a listings guide to let people know when downloads from the web become available, where to get them, and how much they cost. Zinio gives us the opportunity to develop and expand Downloaded live, and allows us to track this new market whilst learning how best to develop the brand.”

The move follows the release of a similar magazine by rival publishers Future earlier this year. Broadbandnow! was launched in May and claims to be the world’s first paperless magazine. The title is aimed at high-speed internet users and distributed electronically.

Future’s title covers much the same content as Downloaded, covering a wide array of entertainment and computing topics, from the latest film releases to sport, online gaming, new websites and getting the most from a broadband internet connection (see Future Launches World’s First Ever Paperless Magazine).
