The BBC has announced that a brand new series following Peter Capaldi throughout the creation of his first season as the Doctor will run exclusively on iPlayer.
Over the course of 12 programmes, Doctor Who Extra will trace the highs and lows of what the Corporation describes as the Doctor’s “most ambitious run of episodes yet.”
The series will also dip into the archive for every edition in an effort to reflect how Doctor Who’s history is echoed in the current eighth series.
Produced by BBC Cymru Wales and executive produced by Steven Moffat, Brian Minchin and Jo Pearce, each 10-minute episode will be available after that week’s Doctor Who episode on BBC One.
Audiences will also be able to access Doctor Who Extra via the BBC’s Red Button.
Commenting on the series the BBC said: “Packed with emotion, great stories and a real sense of ‘access all areas’, Doctor Who Extra is essential viewing for everyone who’s ever watched Doctor Who and wondered what it’s a like to be a part of the team that brings this global phenomena to our screens.”
