Ireland’s TV3 Gets Go Ahead

Ireland’s equivalent of the ITC, the Independent Radio and Television Commission (IRTC), has signed a television programme service contract with TV3, the new Irish national commercial TV channel.

The signing was attended by the IRTC chief executive, Michael O’Keeffe, as well as TV3 chairman James Morris, and Gerry Noble, the director of CanWest which has a 45% stake in TV3.

This conditional contract only requires some final shareholding details and some ancillary matters to make it final. The station’s schedule is to remain confidential for the time being, but its commitments to home-produced programming remain intact: 15% of output initially, rising to 25% after five years.

TV3 is set to commence broadcasting in September 1998.
