Irish Commercial Stations Increase Lead

The latest Irish radio listening report, the JNLR/MRBI Interim Report for the period April to September 1995 shows that the country’s 21 independent commercial radio stations have again increased their lead over RTE Radio 1. Nationally the independent stations have an average weekday listenership of 52% compared to 33% for Radio 1 and 29% for 2FM.

The previous survey, for January to June 1995 showed independent stations with a listenership figure of 1% point lower than this time, 51%. Cork 96FM/ County Sound have an average weekday listenership of 55% compared to 33% for RTE Radio 1, 33% for 2FM and 9% for RTE Radio Cork. In Dublin the two independent stations have maintained their positions, recording listenership of 27% and 21% for Classic Hits 98FM and FM 104 respectively.
