Irish Independent Local Radio Increases Lead
According to the latest JNLR/MRBI Listenership Survey, Independent local radio stations have increased their lead over RTE Radio 1. The independent stations now have a national market share of 42% (up 1%), compared to RTE Radio 1 at 37% (down 1%) and 2FM at 21% (up 1%).
Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of the Independent Radio and Television Commission said that he was very pleased that when the country’s listeners were asked which stations they listened to yesterday, 50% said that they had tuned in to their local independent station. “This latest survey shows that the overall national situation has remained remarkably stable.”
Stations faring well include Highland Radio, increasing market share to 67%, with North West Radio achieving 60%. £ to continue … In the Cork area, where there has been increased competition from the re-vamped local RTE station 89 FM, 96FM/County Sound have increased their market share to 45%, which represents a 2% increase over last year.
Radio Kerry has increased in listenership as well as market share, which is now 49%. Tipp FM and Tipperary Mid West Radio have also increased in both areas.
