Irish Independent Local Radio Maintains Position

According to the latest JNLR/MRBI Listenership Survey, half of the country’s listeners tuned in “yesterday” to one of the independent local radio stations. The survey covers the period from 1 January 1994 to 31 December 1994.

In terms of market share the independents have 41% share, RTE Radio 1 37% and 2FM 21%”.

Highland Radio had a market share of 70% in its North Donegal franchise area; Mid West Radio had a share of 58% and Wexford’s South East Radio increased its share by 2% to 47%. The largest increase in share was recorded by CKR FM, which increased its share by 6% to 42%.

The independent stations managed to increase their share of the Dublin market by one point to 33%; Classic Hits 98FM continued to grow in market share and now has 21% share.
