Irish Radio Market

Commercial radio accounts for 10% of all advertising spend in Southern Ireland, this is more than four times the share it takes in the UK. There are three state owned commercial stations, two of which are national (RTE Radio 1 and RTE Radio 2 FM) and one local (RTE Cork 89FM), and 22 local commercial stations.
The transmission areas for the local commercial stations follow county boundaries and unlike the radio licences in the UK, none of the licences overlap, with the exception of 98FM and FM 104 in Dublin. The latest JNLR/MRBI research gives the local stations a 50% reach among adults, RTE 1 a 39% reach and RTE 2 FM a 28% reach.
