IRTC Seeks Expressions Of Interest In Irish Community Radio
The Independent Radio and Television Commission is to advertise seeking parties interested in obtaining a number of contracts for community broadcasting services. Michael O’Keeffe, IRTC Chief Executive, said that the Commission is also seeking expressions of interest for a specialist interest licence specifically for the Dublin area.
In both cases any interested parties have until 5.00pm on 9 October to submit their proposals which should include an “indication of the type of service proposed” along with information on envisaged ownership structure and the capacity of the group to provide the service. Expressions of interest are not to be regarded by the IRTC as application for a broadcasting contract.
The IRTC has also published a policy document on community radio broadcasting . This document reports that “community stations can develop into a viable and distinct strand in Irish broadcasting.”
