i’s new website goes live

Following the official launch of the i newspaper under new owner Johnston Press earlier this week, inews.co.uk has gone live.

The first time i has ever had a totally dedicated website, inews has been designed to be fully responsive across all devices and will offer ‘up-to-the-minute’ news and information.

Led by Felicity Morse, who was announced as digital news editor last week, readers will also be able to choose news through ‘The News Matrix’ which shows headlines at a glance – with categories including Essentials, Explainers, Opinion and Distractions “for readers wanting a quirky story to break up their day”.

The homepage will also display an Essential Five section which will display the five most important headlines of the moment.

“We’re taking the values that have made i such a success in print to shape inews.co.uk,” Olly Duff, editor of i said.

“We take real pride in concise, quality journalism, as well as intelligent analysis, convenience for our readers, being free from political party bias, and having a conversation with our readers, and the team has done a fantastic job in bringing that to life with the website.”

Speaking at the Digital Media Strategies conference last month, Johnston Press’ chief digital officer, Jeff Moriarty, said that inews.co.uk will leverage real-time user data and have an “aggressive” social push – including publishing content through Facebook Instant Articles.

At the time of writing, Newsline could see simple banner and MPU ads displaying for Sky in what can only be described as a fairly light ad experience.
