ISBA For Peak Time Advertising On BBC

ISBA For Peak Time Advertising On BBC

The director general of ISBA John Hooper, has written to the Chancellor Gordon Brown recommending that the BBC carries three minutes of advertising during peak time viewing.

Hooper argues that the revenue gained from allowing this small amount of advertising on the public service channels would aid the Government’s plans to subsidise television licences for pensioners; these plans are expected to be announced in Gordon Brown’s budget this month. Hooper is apparently considering drafting in the backing of groups like Age Concern and Help the Aged.

ISBA is also requesting that the BBC carries public service advertisements, like the Government’s anti drink and drive campaign. Currently, only the commercial channels run such public information films.
