ISBA Lobbies Govt On BBC Funding

The Incorporated Society of British Advertisers has submitted a booklet to the Government entitled “The Future of The BBC”, in which it appeals for mixed funding for the BBC.

ISBA believes that rigid adherence to the licence fee as the only source of BBC funding would seriously limit the emergence of a stronger more competitive broadcasting pattern, with the BBC income falling below both ad revenue and subscription income from ITV/C4 revenue by 2000 is likely to reach £2.7bn, compared to the £1.3bn generated by the BBC’s license fee. ISBA also state that the negative perception of advertising held by the government is mistaken – with research carried out this year by MORI showing that 67% of viewers would feel happy to see the BBC part funded by advertising, whilst 34% preferred “no licence fee, all advertising.”
