ITC Begins Search For New Chief Executive
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) will begin the search for a new chief executive early in the New Year. Peter Rogers, the current CE, has decided to retire from his position a year early to allow his replacement adequate preparation time before new broadcasting laws are due to be introduced.
Commenting on his decision Rogers said: “The government is planning major new broadcasting legislation early in the life of the next parliament, following the general election. Policy work in preparation for this legislation will start next year and the ITC has already commenced work on its Audit of Regulatory Requirements which will make an important contribution [see ITC To Undergo Full-Scale Regulation Review]. When it became clear that the passage of the legislation through parliament would not be before my retirement date early in 2001, the members of the Commission, with my advice and agreement, decided that my successor should be in post as soon as possible in order to provide the necessary level of continuity throughout this critical period.”
Sir Robin Biggam, the ITC chairman, said: “Peter has been an outstanding chief executive, leading the ITC into the dawn of the digital age. The process of selecting a new [one], which will be advertised early in the new year, will be a lengthy one which is unlikely to be completed until the second half of next year.”
