ITC Fines Telewest £10,000
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) has fined cable company Telewest £10,000 for continually breaching the ITC rules on the amount and scheduling of advertising, in relation to local advertisements.
In November 1998, the broadcaster screened an ad for an 18-rated film on the Cartoon Network during a local advertising slot on Telewest Cable in the Bristol area. Telewest had previously been formally warned by the ITC for similar breaches more than once (see Newsline).
The ITC felt that Telewest did not have adequate monitoring procedures in place, and when deciding on the penalty took into account Telewest’s willingness to rectify its failings.
