ITC Formally Warns Three Television Channels

ITC Formally Warns Three Television Channels

The Independent Television Commission (ITC) has issued formal warnings to three of its licensees for breaches of its programme code.

Zee TV, the Asian television channel, was reprimanded for ‘undue prominence’ for products or services in programme time. One of the channel’s programmes included promotional material for a number of businesses, including contact details. Zee TV has been warned by the ITC numerous times in the past for continually failing to comply in the areas of advertising content and scheduling (see Newsline).

The music channel VH1 was warned about broadcasting content involving bad language before the 9 o’clock watershed after receiving a complaint from a viewer. VH1 had been warned previously by the ITC on a similar matter, and so a formal warning was issued in this case.

Lastly, the channel Living was issued with a formal warning by the watchdog after promoting products and services during programme time.
