ITC Give Digital Invitation To ITV And Channel 4

The ITC has formally issued invitations to terrestrial broadcasters to apply for the licence to operate the second largest digital multiplex. The Channel 3 licensees, Channel 4 and Teletext Ltd are guaranteed capacity on this multiplex.

The multiplex is not to be awarded by a competitive process, but is to be offered to Channel 3 and Channel 4 who have guaranteed places on it. Channels 3 and 4 are required under the terms of the Broadcasting Act 1996 to simulcast their existing programme service in digital form, apart from the advertisements, and are also offered the remaining capacity on the multiplex to develop new services. Teletext Ltd will have space made available on the multiplex so it can continue to broadcast its public services.

… The ITC has awarded the cable licence for Daventry to Heartland Cablevision II (UK) Ltd. Heartland, a subsidiary of Telecential Communications, has a commitment to serve 8,710 homes by the year 2001.

… The ITC is inviting applications for the local cable franchise for South Cumbria. The licence area is defined as Barrow-in-Furness Borough and South Lakeland District in the County of Cumbria. This area contains approximately 69,000 homes.
