The Independent Television Commission (ITC) is inviting public comment on whether the proposed provision of digital services by Scottish 2 Television, a division of Scottish Media Group (SMG), would operate against the public interest.
The area in which the service would broadcast covers almost the whole of Scotland and is already served by Scottish Television and Grampian Television, both owned by SMG. The company also controls a number of local newspapers, most notably the Herald and the Evening Times, which circulate in the same area as the proposed digital service.
The deadline for comments on this matter is 5 February 1999.
