ITC Issues Warning To TVX Over Film

The Independent Television Commission has issued a formal warning to the new adult satellite television channel, Television X – the Fantasy Channel, about compliance with programme content rules. The decision to issue a warning was taken by the commission at their meeting on 19 October 1995.
Television X aired the film Requiem for a Vampire, and included approximately six minutes that had been cut by the British Board of Film Classification, which depicted sexual assaults on women. The BBFC cut the six minutes prior to releasing the film with an 18 certificate.
The channel is now warned that sanctions will be considered if further breaches of the Code are allowed to occur.
The sanctions available to the ITC in respect of cable and satellite programme licensees include fines of up to £50,000 per offence and shortening or revocation of the licence held by the company concerned.
