ITC Makes Moves To Close Adult Channel
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) has recommended that Chris Smith make a proscription order against foreign satellite channel Adult X. The regulatory body has decided that the channel is an unacceptable service under the terms of the Broadcasting Act.
The Commission believes that Adult X is unacceptable on the grounds that it repeatedly contains material which offends good taste and decency. The output of the channel consists almost entirely of “unacceptable pornography”, according to a statement released by the ITC.
A proscription order by the secretary of state for culture, media and sport would make any form of trade in connection with the service a criminal offence. Thus suppliers of equipment to access the service, advertisers on the channel, and those who publish details about its content, would be liable to prosecution.
