ITC Renews Remaining ITV Licences
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) has confirmed that it has renewed the licences for the remaining Channel 3 companies. Border, Central, Grampian, Granada, LWT and Scottish have all extended their licences for a further ten year period.
Financial terms for licence renewal were revealed by the regulatory body last month (see ITC Announces Financial Renewal Terms For Remaining Seven ITV Licences) and have now been accepted by the holders. All ITV licensees have now been renewed: Anglia renewed its licence at the beginning of last year (see ITC Renews Anglia TV Licence, Freezes Fees for 2001) and the remaining eight were renewed at the beginning of 1999.
Sir Robin Biggam, ITC chairman, said: “The fairer basis of licence payments will ensure that licensees can continue to provide an excellent range and quality of national and regional services in an increasingly competitive market. There is now a firm basis for ITV going forward over the next ten years.”
