Following a number of warnings in recent months (see Satellite Channel Licence May Be Revoked), the Independent Television Commission (ITC) yesterday issued a suspension order to Kurdish satellite TV station, Med TV, which runs for a period of 21 days.
The announcement led to protests outside the ITC’s offices as well as negative reaction from Kurdish leaders. The Commission issued the suspension claiming that Med Broadcasting had been transmitting programmes containing material likely to encourage or incite to crime and acts of violence in Turkey.
Med TV is now given the opportunity to make a representation to the ITC, following which the Commission will decide whether to fully revoke the licence.
