ITC To Revise Sponsorship Code

The Independent Television Commission is publishing proposed modifications, for public consultation, on the ITC Code of Programme Sponsorship.

The ITC says that over the last year a number of proposals has been received for relaxation on current sponsorship codes. The Commission acknowledges that there has been changes in television broadcasting since the code was first published and is proposing changes for:

  • a partial relaxation of the prohibition on masthead programming which is proposed for non-terrestrial services
  • the type of sponsorship deals which are permissible for consumer advice programmes
  • a more flexible regime for single interest channels

The changes could mean that magazine brands have the opportunity become television programmes on cable and satellite.
