ITC – Violence Levels Remain Unchanged
The results of a two week monitoring of ITV, C4 and BSkyB to assess the level of violence shown on each channel has found that both ITV and C4 have failed to reduce the overall level of violence called for by the ITC in July 1993, whilst Sky Movies and the Movie Channel showed a slight reduction.
Over the two week period it was found that 8% of ITV output and 6% of C4 output contained very strong or extremely graphic violence. The most violent area of programming was drama with 69% of ITV drama, and 74% of C4 drama containing violence of some description. This represents a year on year increase of 18% and 33% respectively.
Monitoring was carried out between 6.00pm and midnight over a two week period between 16th April and 20 May 1994.
