ITC Warns Christian Channel Over On-Screen Fundraising

The ITC has issued a warning to the Christian Channel Europe stating that it has breached Programme Code by featuring on-screen fundraising.

The channel’s Good Morning Europe programme publicised a leaflet produced by the Christian Channel and encouraged viewers to return a coupon from it and to send a donation. The ITC code decrees that religious charities may only appeal for funds on behalf of disadvantaged third parties.

ITC director of programmes and cable, Sarah Thane, said: “The Commission believes legislation and the ITC’s codes already allow for adequate programme funding opportunities – through advertising, sponsorship and viewer subscription.”

This is the second time that the Christian Channel has received a warning from the ITC; the first time was for a breach of the ITC Programme Code relating to demonstrations of exorcisms. The Commission has said that any further infringement by the Christian Channel will result in a financial penalty.
