ITC Wins Technical Award

ITC Wins Technical Award

The ITC is celebrating the fact that it has received an award from the Royal Television Society. The award, the Technical Innovation award for Research and Development, was given for the virtual human Simon the Signer.

Simon was a joint creation of the University of East Anglia, Televirtual and the ITC, and will provided instant signing during programmes for the deaf community. It is hoped that Simon’s creation will pave the way for more advanced forms of interactivity between viewers and their television sets

Nick Lodge, Head of the ITC’s Standards & Technology Department said: “We are delighted that our project work has been recognised by this award and are committed to exploring all new technologies which provide improved access to television for disabled people.”.
