Independent Television News (ITN) has signed a new five year agreement with Channel 5 to continue supplying its news until 2004. The new contract replaces a deal between the two groups which was due to expire in 2002 and includes a committment to maintain 5 News as a ‘trend setting’ news service.
Under the new contract ITN will also produce all of the First on Five strand; previously it produced only one fifth of the output.
Editor in chief of 5 News, Gary Rogers, commented: “I am delighted that Channel 5 is committing itself to the ITN news service for the next five years. The committment to a new look service gives us a great way to find more innovative ways of delivering our service to the audience – we relish the prospect.”
