ITV is claiming that a special hour-long edition of The Bill helped it achieve its best Friday performance for over a year. The unofficial data released this week shows that ITV’s peaktime audience share on Friday January 19 was 55.0%, giving the channel a 35.1% lead over BBC1.

The Bill attracted 14.4 million viewers and a 58% share of the available audience for the slot. When video viewing is added, the official consolidated figure is expected to top 15 million.

Other high performing ITV shows last Friday were Family Fortunes (12.5m), Coronation Street (17.2m) and the final part of Catherine Cookson’s The Tide of Life (11.5m).
