Itv Announce 1995 Schedule
Marcus Plantin has today outlined ITV’s programming and scheduling philosophy for the coming year; he was speaking at “The Television Revolution in Perspective”, a presentation to advertisers and agencies.
He derided the “so-called demise of terrestrial television”, by pointing out that ITV had maintained their peaktime audience share for the past three years and has been much less affected by cable and satellite than had been predicted Programming for 1995 has already been scheduled.
Drama is the main selling point of ITV’s 1995 schedule. New dramas include John Thaw as a barrister in Kavanagh QC; Lynda La Plante has two new dramas, The Governor, and She’s Out, a sequel to Widows. George Cole stars in An Independent Man, and Geraldine James and Cathy Tyson head the cast of Band of Gold. There are adaptations of Mary Wesley’s The Vacillations of Poppy Carew, Joanna Trollope’s A Village Affair and Martina Cole’s Dangerous Lady.
There are new comedy shows for 1995 including George Cole in My Good Friend, Carla Lane’s ITV debut Searching and The Baldy Man; Shine on Harvey Moon also returns.
Factual series scheduled for transmission next year include The Churchills, Lady Killers, which investigates fatal illnesses that affect women, Animal Detectives, investigating animal abuse around the world and The Greatest Show on Earth, celebrating cinema. There will also be a second themed week based on the plight of children in trouble spots around the world.
