ITV Announces New Programme Schedule
ITV’s new programme schedule for the spring and summer will consist of new dramas, entertainment specials, youth shows, major factual ‘event’ programming and a new look to daytime afternoons.
Three ‘event’ dramas are the highlights of ITV’s drama portfolio: Poldark, a two-hour costume drama set in Cornwall; The English Wife, a murder mystery set in France; and an hour-long special of The Bill to celebrate its 999th episode.
There will also be three new drama series making their debut: Ellington, piloted last year, features a hard-headed sports promoter; George Cole stars as a maverick local councillor in An Independent Man; and Frontiers revolves around two rival police chiefs. New youth programming will include An Evening With Lily Savage and Tantrums and Tiaras, a fly-on-the-wall account of Elton John. The revamped afternoon viewing includes Entertainment Today and Sixth Sense, a show presented by a clairvoyant. Sporting highlight of the year will be coverage of football’s Euro ’96.
