ITV will this week move a step closer to finding a replacement for Charles Allen, the broadcaster’s former chief executive, after the board meets to review the list of candidates for the role.
The board is expected to meet to review the list that city headhunters Zygos have drawn up. It should be presented to board members under the chairmanship of former Bank of Scotland chief Sir Peter Burt.
It is hoped that after the meeting, ITV’s non-executive directors will be able to agree a shortlist and that interviews can begin. The frontrunners are thought to include Stephen Carter, former head of media regulator Ofcom; Dawn Airey, a senior executive at Sky; Michael Jackson, a one-time chief executive of Channel 4; and Malcolm Wall, formerly with United Business Media.
One proposal is the appointment of both a chief executive and a director of television, effectively splitting the top corporate and creative roles.
Last week, Channel 4 head, Andy Duncan, was reported to be back in the frame for the role (see Andy Duncan Back In Frame For ITV Top Job), whilst in October the broadcaster was said to be lining up a ‘dream team’ of Carter as chief executive and Channel 4’s Kevin Lygo as director of programmes (see ITV Could Get Carter).
