ITV Calls For Government To Decide On Digital Strategy
ITV has reacted to yesterday’s announcement from the ITC that the licence for C5 is to be re-advertised, supporting the ITC’s call that the Government decide whether the frequencies should be made available for digital television.
Nigel Walmsley, Chairman of the ITV Engineering Policy Group commented, “While the ITC has a duty to consider the case for Channel 5, the Government needs to decide if the new developments in digital television should now take priority.”
ITV also indicated that they see the future in digital and high-definition television; “It would not be in the viewers’ interest to exclude the established broadcasters from the new technologies that are now being developed”.
Nigel was also sceptical about the ITC’s chances of overcoming the VCR tuning problem.
