CIA Medianetwork have conducted research into ITV viewing figures. According to CIA’s research, figures show that last month (1 to 25 September) ITV took a 37.8% share of all viewing – a marked improvement since ratings began to fall in February and up from 35.6% in July and 35.3% in August.
ITV’s top shows are not performing as well as last year however; the highest rating ITV programme this September was Heartbeat, with 16.5m viewers. This is 1 million less than last September’s top programme, Coronation Street. ITV’s weekends are also performing worse than weekdays. For the period 1-25 September 1995 ITV suffered a 4.8% drop in its total volume of adult viewing year on year. This is made up of a 3.1% drop at weekdays and an 8.4% drop at weekends.
With regard to the News at Ten rescheduling for Cracker on 16th October, Simon Cox, Broadcast Director of CIA, said “I applaud ITV’s decision to move the News at Ten back 15 minutes to allow for an extended first episode of the new series of Cracker. This will definitely be a ratings winner”.
