ITV Clear To Bid For Lottery Show
The ITC yesterday published guidelines about the interpretation of its Programme and Sponsorship Codes with regard to television coverage of the National Lottery.
In principle the ITC has no objection to the National Lottery being advert- ised, although some technical amendment will be required. The ITC also has no objection to shows screening National Lottery draws. David Glencross, Chief Executive of the ITC said, “There is a great deal of scope for imaginative programmes covering the results of the National Lottery on commercial television.” Due to the large amount of likely public interest, the ITC have decided that it would not be incompatible with the Programme Code; however, the following rules would apply.
Sponsorship of such a programme would also be allowed, although the ITC warned that the sponsor’s product must not be contained within the programme.
