According to a report in today’s Independent ITV chiefs have agreed in principle to the launch of a digital television service which would be run by all the ITV companies.
According to industry insiders the ITV companies are considering establishing a corporation, which could be called ITV2, in which all the franchise operators would hold shares. It is believed that any joint venture would not co-operate with the Sky digital network which is due to launch next year (Newsline 07/05). The companies would be more likely to look at using digital cable which could be launched at the turn of the decade.
