ITV Companies Undecided About News Programme
According to weekend press reports, ITV is still undecided about the structure of its weekly 60-minute news programme. It is thought that the problem centres around the format and content of the new show.
Granada television, the winner of the news contract, is said to be in disagreement with the ITV network centre about whether the programme should be an extension of existing documentary programme World In Action, with some of the content also included.
The wrangles could force the programme, which was due to go on air next month, to be delayed until March. The programme is still expected to be presented by Trevor McDonald, with Martin Bashir contracted to carry out interviews
The ITC approved ITV’s proposal to axe the News At Ten in mid-November (see Newsline). Next year also sees the revamping of Channel 4’s main evening news (see Newsline) and changes to BBC1’s Six O’Clock News.
