ITV Gets Commissioned
ITV2, ITV’s digital channel, is due to go on air in November. Today saw the release of the new programme portfolio, which includes new sports, entertainment and factual programmes.
Sports-wise, Futbol Mondial is one of the new shows to hit the airwaves, a half-hour football magazine show with a world perspective. Gabby Yorath will be hosting a half-hour show called The Locker which is about staying fit, featuring work-outs, medical issues and health and nutrition.
The Mix will be a weekly music review show staged in a virtual studio, a similar concept to ITV’s Chart Show, and Baywatch Britain will involve fly-on-the-wall documentaries about the surfer lifestyle in Newquay, and how the funky young things get their kicks.
Brian Barwick, director of programmes for ITV2 said:”The response to our commissioning brief has been overwhelming and recognises the huge opportunity that ITV2 presents to producers. Our job now is to make sure that the mix of new programmes blends in seamlessly into a schedule which will also house programme titles which are already firm favourites with viewers.”
