ITV Joins With Rivals To Relaunch Football Website

ITV has enlisted the help of Rivals Digital Media to provide new content and fresh design features for its relaunched football website.

The new site will support the broadcaster’s football coverage and will provide sponsors and advertisers with another channel through which to reach consumers. It will include information on the Premiership and the Champions League as well as access to ITV’s football pundits and sporting personalities.

ITV.com/football will launch later this month with new content being developed ahead of the start of the new football season in August. The re-vamped site will build on ITV’s exiting online portfolio and its sales will be handled by Granada Interactive.

Commenting on the new initiative, Mark Peatey, head of ITV Online, said: “We’re very excited about partnering with one of the best sports content providers on the web. This approach is a continuation of ITV’s rational approach to operating a commercial online presence in the most efficient way. This strategy has underpinned our grown of unique users to 3.2 million a month and generated an 80% profit margin last year.”

Earlier this week ITV announced that its first major venture into interactive television had proved a success, with over 1 million viewers voting for I’m A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here via interactive applications (see Interactive Vote Proves A Success For I’m A Celebrity).
