ITV Licence Fees Remain Unchanged

The Independent Television Commission has today announced that the licence fees payable by the ITV franchise holders will remain unchanged for the first quarter of 1997.

This will disappoint many in the industry, especially YTTV, who have campaigned for a change in the way licence fees are calculated. Particularly irritating to some is the fact that Channel 4 and BSkyB are not required to pay any money at all in order to broadcast. In October YTTV published what it termed the “level playing field” method, whereby a 14 per cent levy on advertising and subscription revenues is used to calculate payments *YTT Calculates Level Playing Field.
